Social and Emotional Learning Led by Horses
-
Horses facilitate social and emotional learning, it involves observational learning and experiential learning. The program provides a unique learning environment where young people develop life skills and improve wellbeing by interacting with horses. All interaction with the horses are on the ground there is no horse riding
-
The Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) led by horses is trauma-informed and evidence-based, SEL empowers adults and young people to grow their self esteem and better understand their emotions, develop confidence and build communication skills.
-
Through out the programme clients develop emotional intelligence and self awareness, these two life skills provide the foundation for social awareness understanding the emotions of others and empathy. Clients are assisted by observing the horses to determine when they feel changes in themselves. This enables them to learn self regulation.
-
Clients also learn to see when the horses behaviour changes, which helps them recognise how changes in their thoughts can cause different behaviour in the horse. They are able to use these skills in the outside world as they learn how their behaviour affects others and also how to help others regulate using co-regulation.
-
The programme is proven to develop the young persons essential life skills and capabilities which in turn foster personal growth and community inclusion
-
Our clients become more confident, develop a positive understanding of themselves and are able to move towards a positive and fulfilling future.
